Concerto en estilo antigo, for violin and string orchestra
Manuel Quiroga Losada
Manuel Quiroga Losada, internationally renowned violinist and composer, is considered one of the greatest Spanish violinists of all times, along with Pablo Sarasate, Fernando Palatín and Juan Manén.
Quiroga composed this Concerto en estilo antigo in Paris in 1924. It was premiered in its version for violin and piano by the composer himself and his wife at the Teatro Rosalía de Castro, in A Coruña, under the title Concerto de intrata. The version presented here is a three-movement concerto for violin and string orchestra inspired by the Italian baroque concertos of the Bolognese and Venetian schools.
In 2011, in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the composer’s death and the centenary of his recognition with the First Violin Prize at the Paris Conservatoire, Dos Acordes decided to recover the outstanding figure of Manuel Quiroga, the most important Galician violinist of the 20th century, by publishing this edition of this work.
This volume belongs to the series Agra Vella, within the collection Ars Gallaeciae Musicae that Dos Acordes co-publishes with the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries (AGADIC) of the Xunta de Galicia.
