Music transcription: challenges and future

music transcription

Since the Middle Ages, with the figure of the amanuensis, to Petrucci and the digital revolution, music transcription has played an essential role in the development of the notation system and in the dissemination of musical compositions throughout history. However, it has been over the past decades that transcription has undergone a significant evolution, thanks to which it has, nowadays, an unprecedented quality.

At the same time, the evolution of notation itself is connected to the historical path of music transcription. For this reason, music editors are currently required to be versatile and suitably qualified to work precisely with the actual complex music notation and so is our team.

In Dos Acordes, we take deep care to ensure that all of our projects meet high quality standards. Do you want to know more about our work and services? Keep reading!

About our work

The transcription of sheet music is one of the services we specialised in. Our human team is led by Karolis Biveinis, an experienced composer and pianist with a large musical career and hundreds of transcriptions under his belt. In order to suit the needs of our clients, we use the leading music notation software (Finale, Sibelius, Musescore…) to obtain high quality results.

In addition, we study each client’s project and offer them, if requested, the possibility of publishing their transcription. We have extensive experience —more than 20 years— in managing the printing process from beginning to end. Our graphic designer works together with our team of transcribers to ensure the final layout is professional, adequate and consistent and to create a unique design that follows our product line an also respects the author’s ideas.

We oversee all the printing process to guarantee high quality results in an appropriate time. Our goal here is to make sure that our clients have nothing to worry about. Besides, our efforts always align with our values and commitments. Therefore, we will keep supporting our trusted suppliers and printing in Spain, while guaranteeing worldwide shipping.

Our area of activity

However, our work goes even further!

We collaborate with outstanding research groups from the main Spanish universities, as well as with different symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles. These collaborations involve very detailed works, since every sheet music must be thoroughly elaborated to ensure that they all are suitable for each performer.

Although some may think it is an automatic job, editing is not transcribing. Extracting the parts so that they are easy for the interpreter to read requires patience, care and dedication.

We also bring our creative vision to the whole process. For example, regarding contemporary music notation, we propose specific symbols to avoid the handwritten parts usually sent by the composers while faithfully respecting their original ideas.
