Mock-ups: a custom-made music production

Insights into the process

A mock-up is literally a full-size model of something large that has not yet been built, showing how it will look or operate. It can also refer to a plan of how a page of a website, magazine or newspaper will look when it is finally created.

However, when talking about music mock-ups, a significant difference arose: they are not preliminary designs or models, but meaningful and complete compositions. Their specific feature? They are built using virtual instrument software.

These recording projects, in which Dos Acordes specialises, are based on the client’s musical ideas and also on our own creativity and expertise, so every work is unique. All in all, the possibilities of this service are vast.

As you may know, when a composer or arranger uses a computer to create sheet music, they do so by means of specific music notation software, such as Musescore or Sibelius, among others. This piece of software works with MIDI files and allows users to listen to the composition itself at all times. However, the generic sound is not of very high quality, and so it is far from being realistic.

Therefore, given the case that a composer wants to know how their piece is going to sound when performed by a real ensemble or orchestra, a mock-up is the ideal solution. Mock-ups are certainly one of the most powerful innovations that the technological revolution has brought to the field of music and all musicians, professional and amateur, can take advantage of its many benefits.

How do we work?

In order to achieve a unique and high-quality result, our team carry out a work that requires both a rigorous analytical phase and a creative process.

We are therefore committed to providing our clients with the necessary inventiveness and innovation for their projects as well as an in-depth study of their characteristics and a methodical approach to the labour.

In addition, we use the best virtual libraries to ensure the quality of the final product: 8Dio, Vienna Symphonic Library, Spitfire Audio, Orchestral Tools, East West, etc.

We work from existing MIDI sequences and we also transcribe your sheet music so that it can be sequenced. Besides, we cover other needs such as arranging your compositions or creating compositions from scratch! All we need is someone who is willing to count on us to make their project a reality:

  • Would you like to listen to your own compositions with the sound quality they deserve?
  • Do you need a unique composition that fits a specific genre?
